YPSILANTI: Hispanic-Jobs.com, a national bilingual job search site, has named Eastern Michigan University one of only 17 employers in the U.S. that have increased efforts to reach out to the Hispanic community through bilingual and diversity job postings for 2011.
The search site allows employers to reach jobseekers online who are fluent in both Spanish and English.
"This honor recognizes Eastern Michigan's efforts to recruit a talented, diverse workforce," said James Gallaher, chief human resources officer. "We have implemented a number of innovative recruitment initiatives that support diversity in the workplace."
Eastern is one of only four universities nationwide and the only organization in Michigan to be recognized. The other universities are Eastern Illinois, University of Texas System-Texas and Kent State. Nationally known companies such as General Electric, Walt Disney Resorts and Blue Cross Blue Shield of California, were also cited.
"We want to recognize those companies and agencies who have demonstrated their commitment to reaching out to bilingual and diversity candidates and posting volume job opportunities in front of our audience," said company founder Simone Emmons in a press release.
As the U.S. Hispanic population continues to grow, employers are increasingly looking for skilled bilingual workers to fill job vacancies, she said. Spanish has become the nation's second most widely spoken language and companies have responded through initiatives to recruit more Hispanic employees.
