More than 3,300 new students and their families will experience the excitement of seeing the Eastern Michigan University campus and settling into campus life when they descend on EMU, Sept. 1, for the University's three-day Fusion extravaganza. Fusion features Move-In Day, orientation and a host of other activities.
President Susan Martin will ride her green bicycle around campus, greeting students and their families. Alumni volunteers, student athletes and others will lend a hand as the newest Eagles move into their residence halls.
WHO: Approximately 3,300 new and returning Eastern Michigan University students will descend upon campus for the start of the Fall 2012 semester.
WHAT: Eastern Michigan University's Fusion: Move-In Day/New Student Orientation.
More than 200 new student orientation assistants, 250 volunteers from fraternities and sororities, and student-athletes from the baseball, swimming and rowing teams will help new students move into their the residence hall rooms.
WHEN: Saturday, Sept. 1, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other activities scheduled Sept. 2-4.
WHERE: Eastern Michigan University main campus in Ypsilanti.
Saturday, Sept. 1 events:
Move-In Day: Residence Halls, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Fusion Family Picnic: At EMU's Bowen Field House, University Park (on main campus), 12:30 -2:30 p.m.
Convocation Ceremony: EMU President Susan Martin welcomes students and their parents, 4-5 p.m., EMU's Convocation Center, 799 North Hewitt Rd.
Sunday, Sept. 2:
CloseUp Performance Theatre: A high-impact, high-energy show written and performed by EMU's own student theatre troupe. No subject is taboo in this honest exploration of the issues, choices and decisions that today's college students face every day, 12:30 -1:30 p.m., 3 - 4 p.m., Pease Auditorium, corner of College and West Cross Sts.
EaglePalooza @ the Student Center: Students enjoy a meal, hang out with their orientation group, and enjoy lively entertainment and games, 5:30 - 8 p.m., EMU Student Center food court, 900 Oakwood St.
Lores and Legends Tour: This interactive and entertaining evening tour offers students an inside look behind the school and town we love! 10 p.m. Meet outside EMU's Bowen Field House.

Fajita Fest: EMU's Fajita Fest is all about food, fun and student organizations galore. Students representing more than 200 organizations are ready to share information about the benefits of on-campus involvement. Monday, Sept. 3, 5:45- 8 p.m., Student Center, 900 Oakwood St.
Community Plunge: Community Plunge offers a wonderful opportunity to volunteer at a local nonprofit organization and explore how students can make a difference in our community. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (various Ypsilanti sites). Call 734.487.1313 to sign up.
YpsiFest: Get your Ypsi Bucks and YpsiFest schedule to check out the hot spots in Ypsilanti. Have a meal out on the town - compliments of Eastern Michigan. Free shuttle service runs throughout the afternoon from campus to the many retail stores and restaurants in downtown Ypsi and Depot Town. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Meijer Mania: Students can buy food, furniture, clothes, household items and bedding at this special event. Evening activities feature free giveaways and free transportation from EMU. Thursday, Sept. 6, 7-10 p.m. Students to meet at Student Center circle drive, 900 Oakwood St. Meijer is located at 3825 Carpenter Rd. south of Washtenaw Ave.
Eastern Block Party: Block parties on campus? You bet! More than 100 community partners have been invited - from banks and cell phone companies to local restaurants and community involvement centers. Students will learn a little more about Ypsilanti and its local businesses. Friday, Sept. 7, 4-6 p.m., Buell Residence Hall (on campus).
