YPSILANTI:  It's never too late to go back to school. Whether you are currently an undergraduate student ready to graduate or a working professional, a graduate degree or certification can be an important step to a new career or a promotion.

Eastern Michigan University can help you take that first step during its Graduate Open House, Saturday, Jan. 12, 10 a.m. to noon, in the EMU Student Center ballroom, 900 Oakwood in Ypsilanti.

The free event will offer information about a variety of disciplines in such areas as science, business, the arts, education, technology, and health and human services.

During the open house, prospective students can:

  • Speak with a representative and receive general information about the programs and contact information for faculty advisers.
  • Learn about graduate assistantships and doctoral fellowships.
  • Meet with faculty members from several doctoral and cohort programs.
  • Apply for admission. The application fee will be waived for the first graduate program that you apply to.
  • Register for a drawing to win tuition credits. Three winners will each receive a $1,500 award.

Students gain valuable experience in Eastern's science programs, located in the new Science Complex

As an Eastern Michigan graduate student, you'll be a part of a university with a 163-year-old history, an exciting community of world-renowned scholars and nearly 5,000 students.

"Graduate students at Eastern have a lot of opportunities, from research to being a graduate assistant," said Emily Vontom, a graduate student in public relations. "I've gained more than just an education. I've learned how to become a professional in my field through the opportunities I have received here."

Consider these advantages that set Eastern Michigan apart from other graduate schools:

  • A flexible doctoral program that offers full-time and part-time enrollment, evening classes and educational leadership classes on Sundays.
  • Eastern offers more than $4 million for graduate assistant positions, enabling students to work and earn income as they pursue their degrees, and
  • There is a 90-percent completion rate for our doctoral graduates - significantly higher than the 30-percent national rate for doctoral students.

Eastern's faculty and staff are fully invested in their students' success because our supportive academic environment places a priority on mentorship. Eastern is known for promoting opportunities for students while encouraging them to take on new challenges. This open and welcoming campus environment fosters strong intellectual relationships that continue long after you graduate.
