YPSILANTI - Eastern Michigan University and the UAW Professional/Technical Union (UAW-1976) and the EMU Chapter of the Command Officers Association of Michigan - Sergeants Unit have reached agreements on separate four-year contracts.
The new agreements run from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2017. They include a two percent salary increase for each fiscal year starting July 1 though July 1, 2016.
The unions both accepted the University health care plans, along with the new University retirement plan for new employees entering their units. Each union has ratified its contract.
"We are extremely gratified to reach agreements with the Professional/ Technical Union and the Sergeants Union," President Susan Martin said. "Our professional/ technical employees are essential to the operation of the University, and have greatly contributed to our growth and momentum at Eastern.
"The sergeants provide crucial leadership in our Department of Public Safety, ensuring the welfare of our students and staff at Eastern. Security and safety are central to our campus mission, and we are proud of the many improvements we have made over the last five years in terms of staffing, facilities and technology on campus."
The UAW professional-technical union has 390 members. The sergeants unit covers four employees.
