YPSILANTI- Eastern Michigan University is offering a new $4,000 annual scholarship for undergraduate students in the College of Business in honor of alumnus Scott Torosian.

The Scott D. Torosian Scholarship is facilitated by a partnership between the Timothy Herbert Financial Group and EMU. The scholarship is intended “to encourage and reward the students that have demonstrated the strength of mind to consistently work hard, overcome distraction and stay focused to invest in their future” according to timothyherbert.com.

Scott Torosian graduated from Eastern Michigan University's College of Business in 2004

“I’m a firm believer in being specialized in a specific field for your future career,” said Torosian. “Rather than earning a general degree, it’s important to focus on one sector of the employment market.”

Torosian decided to assist students who demonstrate a financial need because of his own financial challenges as a student.  In addition to attending school as a full- time student, he worked in the student dining services on campus. In return, Eastern Michigan University covered the cost of room and board, according to timothyherbert.com.

Torosian graduated from EMU in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in business with an emphasis in finance. He currently works in Auburn Hills, Mich. as an associate wealth advisor at the Timothy Herbert Financial Group, where he has been a retirement advisor for the past eight years.

The Scott Torosian Scholarship will be awarded once a year to a qualified junior or senior enrolled in the College of Business who submits an application, including an essay stating how the student plans to use his or her Michigan-based education to improve the state. Visit the scholarship/financial aid page for more information.
