YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University will celebrate the many collaborations between the University and the surrounding community during its annual celebration of that alliance, to be held on Friday, April 11.
The EMU Office of Academic Service-Learning, the Institute for the Study of Children, Families, and Communities, and the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance will be co-hosting the celebration, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Lakehouse in the center of the EMU campus.
The event serves to recognize and celebrate the community organizations and members along with the outstanding represenatives of Eastern's faculty, staff and students who create bridges of opportunity between the community and the University.
The awards to be given include:

The Dale Rice awards honor the legacy of Dr. Rice. As a professor of special education for over 30 years, Dale Rice has always believed in the importance of community service, and engaged his students in such activities long before the concept of service-learning gained national attention.
He established the Office of Academic Service-Learning at EMU in September 1994. He retired from EMU in 2002 and continued to be a consultant and friend of the Office of Academic Service-Learning until his passing in 2011.
