EMU, Ypsilanti Library offer workshop about Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Jan. 29

YPSILANTI - Eastern Michigan University and the Ypsilanti Library will host an informational session about recent changes to the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, Sunday, Jan. 29, 2-4 p.m., at the Ypsilanti Library, 5577 Whittaker Rd. The event is free and open to the public.

Colleen Croxall, health administration program director at EMU, will discuss the new plans offered through Medicare. Following the presentation, participants will be given a worksheet to determine which plan provides the best coverage based on their prescription needs.

People with Medicare have been able to sign up for one of several prescription drug plans since Nov. 15, 2005. Those covered by Medicare must sign up for a plan by May 15, 2006 to avoid penalties, unless they are covered by a previous plan.

Those covered under a previous Medicare plan and first time Medicare applicants are eligible to sign up for the new plans.  Although the plans are outlined in detail on the Medicare Webpage (www.medicare.gov), Croxall said the informational session can help eliminate confusion.

For more information, call the Ypsilanti Library at 734.482.4110.
