EMU's Robbins receives national volunteer service award

YPSILANTI - Jerry Robbins, professor and former dean of the College of Education at Eastern Michigan University, has received the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education's (AACTE) Volunteer Service Award.   The award was presented at the AACTE's 57 th annual meeting in Washington, D.C, Feb. 20-23.

This award, sponsored by the AACTE Nominating Committee, recognizes an individual whose long-term contribution has made an impact on the organization through outstanding service to AACTE and its membership.

"I am deeply honored that my colleagues within AACTE have chosen me to receive this recognition," Robbins said.   "It is a special tribute and I am both highly flattered and deeply humbled."

Robbins' involvement with the association as a member dean spans more than thirty years, and includes multiple terms on the board of directors and as president of the Teacher Education Council of State Colleges and Universities.  

The award also recognizes his dedication and willingness to provide a high quality of service.

AACTE is a national, voluntary association of colleges and universities with undergraduate or graduate programs to prepare professional educators.   The 785 AACTE member institutions graduate approximately 90 percent of the nation's new teachers and other educators each year.   AACTE's headquarters is in Washington, D.C.
