A message from EMU's President for a Day, Daniel Mathis
Dear students, faculty and staff,
Good afternoon! My name is Dan Mathis, and I am a junior majoring in Social Sciences. Today, I had the opportunity to exchange places with President John Fallon. President Fallon attended my classes and my extracurricular activities, including my job in Academic Programming, lunch with members of my fraternity (TKE) and a housing staff meeting. On the other hand, I fulfilled the president’s duties for the day. I attended a breakfast meeting where I met Congressman John Dingell, toured the Physical Plant, looked over the new Student Center, met with several University officials and wished the women’s basketball team luck as they left to play in the MAC Tournament.
I would like to give special recognition to EMU’s Physical Plant. When I toured the plant, I was amazed by their efficiency and teamwork. These are the people who keep the University functioning. Their work is often thankless when in reality the university could not function without them. Eastern’s Physical Plant is recognized nationally and other universities come to EMU to learn from them because of how well they function.
Eastern Michigan University offers us numerous opportunities to enrich our lives and continue our development outside of the classroom. It is up to us to grab hold of our futures and do what makes us happy. EMU’s future is in good hands with President Fallon and all of the faculty and staff who make this such a wonderful place to learn and develop.
