WEMU's Cluley wins state broadcasting honor
YPSILANTI - WEMU news reporter Andrew Cluley has won the Michigan Association of Broadcasters 2005 Broadcast Excellence Award for the Best Feature/Use of Medium for his story “Pinball Art, “ a report on the pinball art display showcased on the EMU campus last winter.
“The pinball art exhibit at Eastern Michigan University had all the ingredients for a superb radio feature, and a very skillful Andrew Cluley put everything together just right,” said WEMU News Director Clark Smith. “We also had great help from EMU fine arts professors, Larry Newhouse and Richard Rubenfeld, in getting access to the exhibit and all the people involved with it and thank them for their assistance.”
The MAB is a non-profit 510 ©(6) organization representing commercial radio and television broadcast stations in Michigan. MAB is governed by a Board of Directors and operates in Lansing. Their annual awards are divided into categories for commercial and public broadcasting. Cluley’s award was in the Radio Market Two category for public broadcasters with an annual budget of $2 million or less.
WEMU is a listener-supported, NPR/PRI affiliate with a format of local news, jazz, and blues as well as NPR/PRI news, information, cultural and entertainment programming. The station broadcasts to an eight county area that includes all or part of Washtenaw, Wayne, Oakland, Livingston, Jackson, Lenawee, Monroe and Lucas (Ohio) and Webcasts live 24 hours a day at wemu.org.
