EMU College of Technology plans events for recent graduates June 9
YPSILANTI - The age-old advice "Don't mix business with pleasure," is about to be ignored.
Eastern Michigan University's College of Technology (COT) is hosting a reception with an informal networking workshop June 9. The networking 101 workshop is 4:30 p.m. and the reception follows 5:30-8 p.m. at the Ypsilanti Marriott at Eagle Crest. The events are free to young alumni, faculty, employers and guests.
"Some 4,000 students, who have graduated from COT since 1995, will have the opportunity to network, socialize and strengthen the connection with their alma mater, industry colleagues and potential employers in an informal atmosphere," said Ken Ruppel, EMU assistant director for constituent relations.
Representatives from companies such as Eagle Aviation, Gerber Technology and Wayne County Airport Authority will be collecting business cards, he said.
"We realize that our more recent alumni have different interests from their counterparts. Many are looking to network and advance their career," said Ruppel.
Both events are sponsored by the University's Graduates Of the Last Decade (GOLD) program. In Michigan, there are more than 27,000 EMU alumni who have graduated since 1995, and everyone is automatically a member of the GOLD program, which promotes interaction between young alumni through social, service and networking events.
