Governor appoints EMU's Hobson to state board of counseling
YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University professor Suzanne Hobson has been appointed to the Michigan Board of Counseling by Gov. Jennifer Granholm. Hobson, associate professor in EMU’s Department of Leadership and Counseling, will serve a four-year term that expires June 30, 2008. The appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
“I am honored to have been selected by Governor Granholm to serve on the Michigan Board of Counseling. I have been involved in a variety of leadership positions in professional associations and anticipate the experience will serve as an excellent foundation for my work on the board,” said Hobson.
The board is responsible for regulating and licensing the counseling profession in the state and has the authority to take disciplinary action against licensees who have adversely affected the public’s health, safety and welfare. As a board member, Hobson will represent individuals in teaching, training or research in counseling.
Hobson, who has been with the University since 1997, teaches graduate level courses in counseling, coordinating a counseling clinic, supervising clinical practicum students and interns, conducting an active research agenda and providing service to a university community and profession.
Hobson, a resident of Ypsilanti, is also a counselor and psychologist with the Counseling Center of Ann Arbor.
She has a doctorate in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University, a master’s degree in counseling from Central Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and social relations from Harvard University.
Hobson is a member of the American Counseling Association, Michigan Counseling Association and Association of Michigan School Counselors.
