Governor appoints new regent to EMU board

YPSILANTI - Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm has appointed Floyd Clack, a longtime educator and former state representative, to the Eastern Michigan University Board of Regents.

Clack, 64, of Flint, is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring Dec. 31, 2006. Clack replaces Steven Gordon, who resigned from the board in March.

Clack, who received a master’s degree in counseling from EMU in 1972, was a member of the Genesee County Board of Commissioners (District 2) from 1996-2004 and is a former state representative, serving seven terms from 1982-1996. He also served as a member of the Flint City Council from 1979-1982 and was a guidance counselor and teacher in the Flint Community Schools. He is a former president of the Flint NAACP.

Clack’s wife, Brenda, is a member of Michigan’s House of Representatives for the 34th District (Genesee county). Elected to office in November 2002, she is a member of the House’s Education Committee, as well as the Family and Children Services, and Senior Health, Security and Retirement committees.

The next regularly scheduled Board of Regents meeting is Sept. 20, 2005.
