EMU earns “Best Midwestern College” designation from The Princeton Review

Best Midwestern College 2006YPSILANTI - Eastern Michigan University has been given the designation of “Best Midwestern College” by The Princeton Review for the third straight year.

“This is a great validation of the job our faculty and staff do and their commitment because it comes directly from the people we serve – our students,” said Dr. John Fallon, president of EMU.

For 2006, student opinion data from a total of 646 schools is featured on the Best Colleges: Region by Region section of PrincetonReview.com (www.princetonreview.com/college/research/regional). “We believe these schools uphold the standards of our Best Midwestern College distinction and provide students with a wide breadth of excellent schools to consider,” said Robert Franck, publisher and editorial director for “The Best 361 Colleges.”

Student were asked to comment in three categories: academics, student body and campus life.

EMU’s diversity was cited by students in the campus life category. “Eastern is a melting pot in a way, so there really isn't an atypical student," wrote one student.

Comments from students described EMU as “comfortable” and as “one of the top universities in Michigan for pursuing a career in education.”

The faculty was described as “of excellent quality,” and students participating said they appreciate the faculty’s ability “to focus on teaching.”

EMU’s study abroad and honors programs also were given special mention by students.
