EMU receives designation as 'Best Midwestern College' from The Princeton Review

YPSILANTI - – The students of Eastern Michigan University have spoken and, for the fifth straight year, EMU has been recognized as a “Best Midwestern College” by The Princeton Review. The results of the student-driven survey can be found at www.princetonreview.com/college/research/regional.

“This kind of designation is extremely important because it comes from the students. They are the reason we are all here,” said Don Loppnow, executive vice president of Eastern Michigan University. “It’s good to hear them say so many positive things and it lets us know how we can improve.”

EMU was one of 161 institutions to earn the designation of “Best Midwestern College.” The recognition is based solely on a survey of students. The 80-question survey asks students about their school’s academics/administration, campus life, student body and themselves.

Students continue to cite EMU’s diversity and excellent faculty as points of pride.

According to the Princeton Review Web site, “Students in and around Ypsilanti value Eastern Michigan University for its "small campus that is comfortable," as well as the fact that it is "affordable and provides a quality education." The school is regarded as "one of the top universities in Michigan for those pursuing a career in education."

Other areas cited by students included EMU’s flexible class scheduling and how University programs cater to the needs of students.

"Life on campus is as fast-paced or laid back as you want it to be," wrote one student at EMU. Additionally, "the EMU Convocation Center often hosts many concerts, comedians and other types of entertainment, and students get a hefty discount on ticket prices." The EMU campus is "very small and easy to get around." Students "can walk from end to end in about 10 minutes."
