Journal of College and Character invites Fallon participation
YPSILANTI - Eastern Michigan University President John A. Fallon, III will chronicle 14 days in his life as part of the Journal of College and Character’s Presidents’ Public Diaries series.
“The Presidential Public Diaries are intended to provide personal perspectives on the nature of value conflicts that presidents confront in their roles, how they approach ethical issues and the values that guide their decision making,” said Jon Dalton, editor of the Journal.
The Journal of College and Character is an on-line journal that publishes research, reflection, educational strategies and resources on how colleges and universities can be more effective in encouraging the moral and ethical development of college students. It is published by the Center for the Study of Values in College Student Development at Florida State University.
Fallon, who joined Eastern Michigan University July 18 as its 21st president, said he found the idea of keeping a public diary “both fascinating and challenging.”
“A significant portion of every president’s day is spent on issues such as budget, raising money, strategic planning, bonding and facilities where the thought process and language are very corporate. This exercise will allow me to reflect and share the value and ethical underpinnings of those decisions. The challenge will be finding the time to squeeze one more activity into the day,” Fallon said.
Fallon’s began his diary Sept. 7 and will continue it through Sept. 20. His diaries will be published in the October edition of the Journal, which can be found at www.collegevalues.org. The entries will also be posted on Fallon’s Web site, www.emich.edu/president.
