EMU Family Day offers magic, music and more, Oct. 8

YPSILANTI - The Great Bobini magician, an African dance troupe, jugglers, face painting, super heroes and library robots are just a few of the more than 50 free educational activities for children, teens and parents alike at Eastern Michigan University’s Family Day, Saturday, Oct. 8, noon-4 p.m., on EMU’s main campus in Ypsilanti.

Especially for children:

  • The Great Bobini, a deaf musician popular with kids of all ages
  • Make your own finger puppets and masks and enjoy story-telling
  • Watch Yo Dude, the yo-yo man, unlock the secrets of physics with his tricks
  • Create your own wax hand and decorate a tote bag with EMU’s Swoop mascot
  • Meet members of EMU’s women’s volleyball team and get an autographed poster
  • Stop by the greenhouse for a free plant or study tiny things under a microscope
  • Visit the Safety Stop, learn safety tips and inspect a police car and fire truck

For the entire family

  • Music by the Silver Strings Dulcimer Society and the Ypsilanti High School Jazz Band
  • Enjoy the daring feats by the Redford Township Unicyclists
  • Develop your own disaster prevention kit
  • Go back in time with the 17th Michigan Co E Civil War regiment
  • Experience the sounds of Africa with the Like Water Drum and Dance troupe
  • Learn to maneuver the ins-and-outs of EBay or beat the odds with statistics
