EMU PRESENTS ELLINGTON CENTENNIAL CONCERT TOUR, OCT. 8
YPSILANTI - The Duke Ellington Centennial Celebration Tour takes to the stage at Eastern Michigan University's Pease Auditorium, 8:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 8 for an exciting evening of Duke Ellington tunes and other traditional favorites.
Presented by the Arts League of Michigan and Eastern Michigan, the concert features jazz trio Straight Ahead, the Blessed Hearts Chorale, vocalist Harvey Thompson and others performing such famous Ellington selections as "Satin Doll;" "Take the A Train;" and "It Don't Mean A Thing..If It Ain't Got That Swing."
The program celebrates the music of Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington who would have been 100 years old in April. Ellington led his own orchestra and composed for it for nearly 50 years and also organized small ensemble recording sessions with legendary soloists.
A 30-minute program "Conversation with Duke," featuring rare Ellington film footage from the James E. Wheeler collection, will precede the concert.
