PRESIDENTIAL PROGRAM TO HONOR EMU FRESHMEN SCHOLARS, OCT. 9
YPSILANTI - Eastern Michigan University will honor its top freshmen at its Second Annual Convocation of Excellence program, 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 9, at Pease Auditorium.
All freshmen scholarship winners will be recognized in such areas as academics, leadership, performance and athletics.
"The Convocation of Excellence is a special day because it allows the University to honor our outstanding new students," said Rita Abent, executive director of university marketing and communications. "We're encouraging all freshmen who received a scholarship, their families and friends to attend."
Guests will be welcomed by EMU President William H. Shelton. Gary L. Evans, professor of communication and theatre arts, will deliver the keynote address. Evans is the 1999 recipient of EMU's Distinguished Faculty Teaching II Award.
More than 1,000 students of the 1999 freshman class will receive a total of $4,667,600 in scholarships, grants and awards over the next four years.
