MASSIE NAMED EMU DIRECTOR OF ACADEMIC SERVICE-LEARNING
YPSILANTI - Enos Massie, an associate professor of social work at Eastern Michigan University, has been named director of the University's Office of Academic Service - Learning. She succeeds Dale Rice who will remain as a faculty member of the special education department. Her appointment is effective Aug. 28, 2002.
As director, Massie will advance Academic Service - Learning on campus as well as nationwide and will be responsible for faculty development, state and national presentations and fund development.
Academic Service - Learning is a teaching method that uses community service to help students engage in civic activity, acquire new knowledge, and gain a deeper understanding of course objectives.
As a veteran social worker and psychologist, Massie has worked with many human service organizations in Washtenaw, Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. Massie joined EMU in 1989 as an assistant professor.
A graduate of Western Michigan University, she received two master's degrees and a doctorate from the University of Michigan. A native of Ypsilanti, Massie lives in Commerce Township.
