NATIONAL ORGANIZATION FOR WOMEN PRESIDENT
TO SPEAK AT EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY MARCH 26
YPSILANTI - Eastern Michigan University's Women's Center will host Patricia Ireland, president of the National Organization for Women (NOW), Monday, March 26, 3:30 p.m., Roosevelt Auditorium.
Ireland will speak as part of Eastern Michigan University's recognition of Women's History Month.
"The Women's Center is extremely excited to host Patricia Ireland, not only because she is the president of NOW, but also because she comes with a message of activism and involvement that we feel the campus community at large needs to hear," said Kimberly Saks, program coordinator for the Women's Center. "Although some may not always agree with NOW's complete message it is important to realize their achievements and hear their encouragement for the strengthening of campuses nationwide."
Ireland became president of NOW in 1991 after serving as executive vice president and treasurer for the organization. She received her law degree from the University of Miami in 1975 and served as legal counsel to Dade County and the Florida chapter of NOW for seven years before joining the national office in 1987.
