YPSILANTI - Whether it's high technology or just plain hands-on fun, Eastern Michigan University's Family Day has it all. Stop by EMU's main campus Saturday, Oct. 12, noon-4 p.m. and enjoy more than 50 free activities designed to make learning fun.
Yearning to be a pilot? Try experimenting with an actual flight simulator. Interested in engineering? Learn to calculate the best fuels of the future as you test wind, gravity and rubber bands. You can also get a jump on a future in architecture by building a bridge with toothpicks and gumdrops.
Dip your hand into wax and go home with a personalized mold. You can also have your photo digitally captured and printed in a souvenir newsletter.
Action and fun are everywhere - and so is EMU's mascot, Swoop. Take home a customized book bag silk-screened with Swoop or show off your Swoop tattoo.
Additional Family Day activities include face painting; story telling; Colors the Clown and her pig, Petunia; puppet shows; a Harry Potter and Hermione Granger look-alike contest; and a live performance of "Little Red and the Three Pigs."
Teen and adult activities include tips on healthy eating; music by the Ypsilanti High School Jazz Band; tours of campus; a diving demonstration; and a look at the "Rainforest Experience" with live, non-indigenous creatures including snakes, sloths and porcupines.
