YPSILANTI - Eight alumni and benefactors will be honored by Eastern Michigan University at its 40th Annual Alumni Awards Dinner, Saturday, May 12, at the Ypsilanti Marriott. A cocktail reception begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the awards ceremony at 7 p.m.

Those being honored are:

Jonathan D. Dean, ('95), a shareholder-partner with Doeren Mayhew, a consulting firm; and Zhihua Tang, ('97), concert pianist-instructor, who will receive Outstanding Young Alumni Awards. This award is presented to alumni whose achievements have been signified by personal honors bestowed upon them by their peers and who have demonstrated the worth of their education through post-college achievements. Dean and Tang are from Ann Arbor.

Judge Donna Robinson Milhouse, ('81), 36th District Court, State of Michigan; and Joseph Michaels, ('85,) director of marketing and corporate communications, Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, will receive Alumni Achievement Awards. This award is given to alumni who have achieved distinction in their field; demonstrated the value of their college education; and maintained an interest in EMU. Milhouse is from Detroit and Michaels resides in Redford.

Robert H. Holman, ('74), executive vice president and chief administrative officer, Discount Tire Company; and Abe A. Karam, ('62, '65), an agent with Equitable/AXA Advisors, an insurance firm, will receive the Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Awards. This award honors alumni who have achieved extraordinary distinction in their field; demonstrated unusual service to the community; and maintained an interest in EMU. Holman lives in Scottsdale, AZ and Karam is from Saline.

Anthony A. Derezinski, EMU regent emeritus and associate director, Michigan Association of School Boards; and William E. Shelton, president emeritus and EMU professor, will receive the Dr. John W. Porter Distinguished Service Award for outstanding contribution to EMU or its alumni association. Derezinski is from Ann Arbor and Shelton lives in Plymouth.
