YPSILANTI -The EMU Dance Program and the EMU Symphony Orchestra will present the ballet Cinderella Friday, Dec. 7, 2001 at Pease Auditorium.

Two morning performances for area school children are "sold out," but seating for an 8 p.m. public performance are still available. The performance is free.

Cinderella, the first full-length ballet ever presented by EMU programs, .features guest artist, Luis Dominguez, as the Prince. Dominguez performed for more than twenty years with the Dance Theater of Harlem in New York City under the direction of Arthur Mitchell. He has toured extensively both internationally and nationally and rose to the rank of principal dancer. Currently, Dominguez resides in Toledo, Ohio and teaches dance at the Performing Arts School of Metro Toledo.

In the title-role of Cinderella is newcomer Shannon McHale, of Fraiser, MI, and in the role of the Fairy Godmother is senior Amy Smith, of Trenton, MI. Smith has performed professionally with the Detroit Opera Ballet with Iacob Lascu and with the Los Angeles Classical Ballet, where she toured internationally.

The ballet was choreographed by EMU assistant professor, Sherry Jerome, a former professional ballerina with the Saint Louis Ballet. Kevin Miller, Associate Professor of Music, will conduct the symphony and Harry Bowen, a professor emeritus of communication and theater arts, will narrate the production. The entire production will involve more than a hundred EMU music and dance students. Grants received from the Music Department Performing Arts Fund and the Office of the Provost support the production.
