Check Out the
Educational Fun, Excitement at EMUs Family Day, Oct. 11
YPSILANTI
- Get slimed, make worms, and eat metal. Its free fun thats cool
and its happening at Eastern Michigan Universitys Family Day, Saturday,
Oct. 11, noon-4 p.m. Mad scientists, clowns, tattoo artists, performing
bands and puppets are just a few of the performers who will be on hand to make
Family Day 2003 an unforgettable event.
Kids of all ages can enjoy
more than 50 activities that will be happening around campus. Map your strategy
for getting to as many exciting activities as possible. The event is free and
open to the public.
Among the activities and
locations are:
Get a caricature
portrait and your face painted. See Mar-E-Lynn the clown and a deaf magician,
the Great Bobini and enjoy storytelling by Mother Goose at McKenny Union.
Marvel at the music and moves of the Ypsilanti High School Jazz
Band, the Saline Twirlettes and the St. Francis Heartbeats jump rope team. Participate
in a mini basketball camp. It all happens at McKenny Mall Area.
Check out the books while you pick up a library card and the free
refreshments at Halle Library.
Get a milk mustache, make a nurses cap and watch the Redford
Township Unicycle Club at the Marshall Building. Performances are 1:30-2 p.m.
and 3-3:30 p.m.
Make instant ice cream at Saturday at the Lab. Also
make slime, eat worms and find out whether you are eating metal for breakfast
at Mark Jefferson.
Take a break and watch a performance about an emperor and a spider
named Anansi at the Sponberg Theatre. Times are 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
See a big red fire truck and have fun at the Safety Zone. Get
health and safety tips from police officers and firefighters. Its all
at the Snow Health Center.
Dive into the fun and watch EMUs top divers
demonstrate their form. Exhibition is 1 p.m. at the Olds-Robb Recreational and
Intramural Building/Jones Natatorium.
Watch as Yo-Yo Man reveals the secrets of physics with his yo-yo
tricks. Decorate your book bag with a Swoop mascot, build a toothpick bridge,
make a wax model of your hand and get aSwoop tattoo at Sill Hall.
Complete an obstacle course, make your own military dog tags,
inspect an armored Humvee and check out a functioning canon at Roosevelt Hall.
Take a
swing at a Piñata at 2 p.m. at King Hall.
