EMU Family Day Adds Sci-Fi Touch
With Seiger the Robot
YPSILANTI -- Star Wars had R2D2 and C3PO and now EMUs
Family Day is going high tech with Seiger the Robot, a local creation of Ypsilanti
High School students.
The 3-foot, 130-lb. robot used its 8-foot wing span to smash and bash its way
into the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) national
robotic competition during this years regionals at EMUs Convocation
Center.
Seiger, along with its creators from Ypsilanti High School, will demonstrate
some of those maneuvers as one of the newest stars at Eastern Michigan
Universitys Family Day Saturday, Oct. 11, noon to 4 p.m. at 125 Sill Hall.
The brainchild of the Ypsilanti High School robotics team, Seiger successfully
completed climbing a ramp, knocking over boxes and defending its territory during
the regional competition.
Team members will be on hand to discuss the building of the robot and how they
created a remote-control glove design that took the Leadership in Controls award
at the regional competition this year.
The day will also feature more than 50 other free activities which are open
to the public.
