YPSILANTI &emdash; Whether you are looking for some summer fun or are a prospective student on a college fact-finding mission, Eastern Michigan University's annual open house Saturday, Aug. 5 has something to offer.
The free event is geared toward high school juniors and seniors, but is open to anyone. The open house is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the EMU campus. Check-in is at the university's Bruce T. Halle Library.
The open house includes self-guided tours of campus, an academic fair at McKenny Union and a picnic at the Lakehouse.
Prospective students will visit "Swoop stops" (Swoop is EMU's mascot) around campus to get information about EMU. Representatives from academic advising, the University Honors Program, the dean of students' office, public safety and ROTC will staff some of the stops.
Faculty, along with representatives from campus life, career services, housing, and admissions, will answer questions, 10-a.m.-noon at the McKenny Union Ballroom. Financial aid representatives will be at the Lakehouse.
The day culminates at the University Lakehouse with a picnic featuring a fortuneteller, two caricaturists, an airbrush artist and EMU athletes competing against other participants in skill tests.
