SUMMER SEMESTER CERTIFICATION PROGRESS

If you are enrolled in summer semester and completed your Online Request for Enrollment Certification, you should have received an e-mail that your classes had been certified.  If you have not received that e-mail please call our office: 734.487.3119.  If you change your summer schedule you must also let us know so that we update your enrollment certification.

Tuition and Fees will be sent to the VA starting the week of May 20.  Until then you may have a hold on our account.  If you need to add or drop classes, contact our office.  The hold can be temporarily removed if the only money owing is money the VA will be sending.  If any balance that is your obligation has been paid, then all late fees will be removed when the VA money arrives.

FALL SEMESTER 2013 BEGINS:  September 04, 2013

Processing of VA Educational Benefits for total credit hours enrolled will begin July 30, 2013.

If you have made any adjustments to your class schedule after July 19, 2013; please notify our office immediately to prevent the incorrect disbursement of payment.

Students receiving Post 9/11 benefits; tuition and fees will be processed (reported to VA) after the 100% refund period (09/14/2012).    Any late fees accrued; will be removed once payment has been received from VA. If late fees are not removed after 2 days of VA payment being applied, please contact Student Business Services.

Please note:  Any one receiving Federal Aid, Tuition Assistance or any form of a Scholarship; those funds will be applied to your account first.  Any tuition restricted funding received, will reduce the amount the VA will pay toward your tuition and fees.

1)    (1) VA will only pay benefits and/or classes that are required for your declared major/minor

2)    (2) Minors have to be required for your declared major

(3) Any changes to your academic file needs to be reported to our office immediately to prevent the processing of your VA Educational Benefits from being delayed.

Welcome Anne McKee, who will be replacing Monique Coleman who left EMU in October. Also the Military Veterans Resource Center now reports to the Financial Aid Office to ensure adequate back up during busy times and when Anne is out.

The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center (MI-SBTDC) and Eastern Michigan University want to help veterans seeking to start their own businesses by offering a veteran-specific New Venture program FOR FREE starting Saturday, October 13 at the EMU Livonia campus. The New Venture class normally costs $700 per participant. Working in conjunction with VetBizCentral, the New Venture program will be aimed at aspiring and early stage entrepreneurs through the 10-week business development class featuring the nationally acclaimed New Venture curriculum. This program helps entrepreneurs evaluate business opportunities and develop an action plan for owning their own business.  Apply online or call (734) 487-0355.

Veterans Get Motivated: Spend time with Eric Calley 3rd LAR USMC(02-06) and James Sperry, USMC/Retired 3/1, who was wounded three times in the Battle of Fallujah and is a nationally recognized speaker and hear his journey from combat to civilian success.

Our goal is to help motivate veterans to want to transition better in society.

Direct Deposit of education benefits is now available for chapter 35 (Dependents / Spouses Educational Assistance) recipients.
Students that they can sign up for direct deposit by using VA Form 24-0296, or by calling 1-888-GI-Bill-1 (1-888-442-4551).

A Veteran representative will be available on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. to conduct individual student interviews. These interviews will focus on your experience at our school, not on individual benefit issues or problems. I encourage you to participate. Please remember for benefit issues please call 1-888-GIBILL-1. Participation is strictly voluntary.

NEW PROCESS EFFECTIVE FALL 2012:

If you are receiving VA Educational Benefits for the first time or transferring your VA Educational Benefits to EMU; you are required to complete a mandatory orientation.  For updated Orientation Dates and Times, go to www.emich.edu/veterans, click on "About Us" then "News". Failure to complete the mandatory orientation will delay the processing of your VA Educational Benefits which may cause you financial hardship.

Eastern Michigan realizes the educational needs of veteran students and is currently seeking your participation in the attached survey (less than 2 minutes to complete).  This survey will be allow EMU to analyze and seek new innovative ways to approach the educational needs of its veteran student population on campus.

Veterans Retraining Assistance Program (VRAP) 
VRAP offers 12 months of training assistance to Veterans who:

  •     Are at least 35 but no more than 60 years old
  •     Are unemployed
  •     Received an other than dishonorable discharge
  •     Are not eligible for any other VA education benefit program (e.g.: the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Assistance)
  •     Are not in receipt of VA compensation due to unemployability
  •     Are not enrolled in a federal or state job training program
