Yichun Xie, Director, the Center for Environmental Information Technology and Application (CEITA), and Associate Professor of Geography & Geology, holds a Ph.D. in Geographic Information Systems from the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA) at the State University of New York at Buffalo.M.A. Planning, U. of Akron, Ohio, B.S. Geograpohy, Anhui Normal University. He has been actively involved with research of field methods and modeling techniques of environmental information systems, and dynamic urban growth management. Now, he is Principal Investigator of the NSF Work/Site Alliance-GIS Grant and EMU Project Director and Administrator. In addition, Dr. Xie has served as principal investigators in a number of cooperative projects sponsored by US Environmental Protection Agency and US Army Corps of Engineers. These projects include the Fully Integrated Environmental Location Decision Support (FIELDS) System, the Lake Erie Information System for Lakewide Management Plan (LIMS-LaMP), the Great Lakes – GIS – Online and Internet Mapping, the NEXRAD Application in Watershed Management, and the Detroit River Environmental GIS. Dr. Xie, in collaboration with USACE and USEPA, has provided many technical training sessions and public seminars to promote the use of information technology among local governments and non-governmental interest groups. Dr. Xie has also authored articles and book chapters extensively on GIS system design, software development, environmental modeling within GIS, and Asian studies (about 70 publications and presentations). Dr. Xie has developed several customized GIS systems demonstrating profound applications by linking GIS, statistical analysis, domain-specific models, and various computer platforms into multi-functional decision-making systems, VISIT PI; coordination with CO-PI, senior project staff, school administrators and core team teachers, government and agency partners, provision of GIS and spatial analysis technical support, participation in science investigations. |
