Teachers learn GIS applications & earn free graduate credit

Are you a teacher in grades 6 – 12? Are you interested in learning more about GIS and how to apply these tools and data to your own curriculum, classroom, or community? You can take advantage of an opportunity with Project VISIT, supported by the National Science Foundation. Between November 2003 and February 2004, you can earn 1, 2, 3, or 4 graduate credits from Eastern Michigan University (at no charge) for participating in the new VISIT Collaboratory at http://ceita.emich.edu/visit. You will get hands-on experience with educational applications of GIS, participate in dialogue with teacher leaders who have classroom experience using GIS, and become part of a national community of teachers who are investigating the power of these technologies in environmental science, earth science, and social studies. The VISIT staff will provide technical assistance and support for learning GIS through the Educators’ Forums through February 2004. You need to register online at http://maps.acad.emich.edu/asptest/newd/teacher.htm before November 16, 2003 if you plan to receive free graduate credits. For further information, please see the web site to read the “Orientation Note” and “About VISIT”, or contact Ms. Ling Zhang at LZhang2@emich.edu.
