Getting the Most from This Site
This web site
contains three separate, but interwoven,
historic tours of the EMU campus:
1. A Virtual
Tour,
which provides a substantive history of
each of the buildings currently on EMU's
main campus. You can peruse the buildings
individually or chronologically.
2. A Chronological
Tour, which contains a year-by-year
listing of all the buildings that have
been on campus, including those that
no longer exist. There are other interesting
tidbits here, too, such as historic aerial
campus views and historic campus maps.
3. A Physical
Walking Tour, which you can use
as a guide to actually walk the campus
and see the buildings firsthand, after
reading about their historic context.
There is a printable map with the buildings
individually numbered for easy reference.
This site also contains
other items of interest for those who enjoy
history, or just want to know more about
EMU:
1. A brief history of
the University itself, which dates back
to 1849. Images of the original campus
buildings are highlighted here.
2. Brief biographies
and photos of all the University presidents,
from Adonijah S. Welch to Samuel
A. Kirkpatrick. This section also contains
a list of the buildings constructed during
each president's administration.
3. A section of
significant
historic moments in the University's
history, with mini-photos and points
of interest.
Enjoy the tour!
