Obtaining Approval for New Sites at EMU
If you are working on an official
EMU web site, you will need to obtain approval prior to launching
your new site. This is usually completed as a four-step process
(you can use this checklist
for the complete process of setting up an official EMU web site):
- Contact the director of Web
Communications prior to beginning your project, so you can
discuss the scope and planning for the project. We recommend that
you have a clear idea of your site's content and probable information
architecture before beginning this process. The director will
provide information about web development at EMU, and will set
up an SFTP account for you on the University's staging server.
- Download the appropriate EMU template(s) for your project.
- Develop a few pages of your site using the templates and this
online standards guide. Contact the director of Web Communications
to review your work-in-progress.
- Finalize your site; inform the director of Web Communications
that it is ready for launch. The director will review your site
and suggest any necessary revisions. If the site is ready for
launch, the director will move it to the production server or
give you instructions for doing so. You must designate
a site administrator to maintain your site. At this point,
if you are the person responsible for maintaining the site, an
SFTP account will be activated for you on the production server.
If someone other than you will be maintaining the site, make sure
that person has an SFTP account as well.
If your site is already completed, or if you
have used a different staging server for your work, notify the director
of Web Communications that your site is ready for review. Please
be aware that developers of official EMU web sites will be asked
to bring their sites into compliance with the official EMU web site
template standards and guidelines. For this reason, we strongly
recommend communicating with the director of Web Communications
before beginning your project.
Questions about this
site should be referred to the director
of Web Communications.
