Eastern Michigan University does not currently have a fully-staffed web team that can develop all official EMU sites. Individual departments and programs therefore share the responsibility for developing their sites according to the EMU site standards and templates, in consultation with the director of Web Communications and New Media.

Consider which of the following fits your situation:

  1. You have a sufficient budget to develop your site and a timeline for site completion;
  2. You have a small budget to develop your site and a timeline for site completion;
  3. You have someone on staff who is, or will be, responsible for developing your site;
  4. You do not have a budget or a staff / faculty web developer available.

For those in categories 1 and 2, we recommend that you consult with the director of Web Communications about the scope of your site, then plan to work with an external vendor or hire an experienced GA or student to develop and maintain your site. A list of approved vendors and a specifications form for web projects (PDF) are also available. (If you know of a company or qualified web developer that would like to become an approved vendor, contact the director of Web Communications and New Media).

If you are in category 3, refer your web developer to the director of Web Communications and New Media for consultation and information. Your web developer may want to use this checklist to get started.

If you are in category 4, you may contact the director of Web Communications and New Media for suggestions on working with a student or GA on your project. You may need to be creative about assigning someone in your area to complete a project that is small in scope, or in collaborating with a qualified person at the University who would be willing to help develop your site.

You may also wish to participate in the ICT training, Web Solutions Track, which includes a 3-part Dreamweaver workshop, a ditigal imaging workshop, and a workshop on creating PDF files for the web.

If you would like to participate in web development at EMU

If you are a GA, a student or a staff member at EMU and you would like to participate in the process of redeveloping EMU's web site, please let us know. Send a message with your qualifications, site samples and what type of work you would like to do.

If you are a vendor or know of a company that is qualified to provide professional web site development services, send a message including qualifications, portfolio and contact person. Vendors must be prepared to work with the EMU site templates and standards, and they must be able to provide proposals based on the EMU Specifications for Web Development Projects (pdf download). Complete vendor criteria are listed under Working with External Vendors.

Questions about this site should be referred to the director of Web Communications.
