Access
to the EMU servers: Local and Remote Info
Screenshots
This information should be familiar
to users of SFTP clients. Refer to the screen
shots below for troubleshooting info.
1. LOCAL INFO: Define
your site - under the "site" menu in
DWMX2004, select "manage sites." The
screenshot below shows the "Local
Info" window, which is where you identify the site
name and the location of YOUR files (on your
hard drive). Select the "advanced" tab
at the top to get to this screen. Then select "local
info" at left. Type in a name for your site
- a descriptive name you will remember. CREATE
A FOLDER FOR YOUR SITE FILES ON YOUR HARD
DRIVE. Then use the folder icon (to the right
of
"local root folder") to navigate to
that folder. We strongly recommend that you
create a default "images" folder WITHIN
your site files folder, and locate all your
images there:
2. REMOTE INFO: Set
up your SFTP access. The screenshot below
shows the "Remote
info" window,
where you tell the program where to load
the files and how to access the server.
ALL information is case-sensitive and syntactically
EXACT. Select FTP in the pulldown menu.
Enter www.emich.edu in the FTP host line
(DO NOT ADD http:// OR ANYTHING ELSE. JUST www.emich.edu).
Under
"host directory," enter /data/main/htdocs/
and then the name of your directory. Then
enter your username and password. Finally,
make SURE the box before "Use Secure FTP
(SFTP)" is checked. Click the "test" button
next to "login." If you have entered
all information correctly, you will receive
a "success" message, and you are ready
to load your files to the server:
IMPORTANT:
For security reasons and support reasons,
EMU requires that web site administrators
have a baseline
level of web-related knowledge BEFORE they
are granted access to our servers. If the information
on this page is unfamiliar or confusing to
you, it is likely that you require additional
training before using our servers. If this
is the case, and you are the administrator
of an official
web site at EMU, please contact the Help Desk
(487.2120) to inquire about receiving assistance
from EMU's instructional technologists. You
may also find the documentation from prior
sessions helpful. That documentation is here: http://ict.emich.edu/training/moretraining/web/index.html.
Questions about this site should be referred
to the director of Web Communications and New Media.
