World College


The World College, established in 1987, is housed within Extended Programs in the Division of Academic Affairs. Collaborating with faculty and staff from across the university, the World College facilitates the development and administration of a variety of activities and programs which have international aspects.

The World College's mission is to promote and guide the internationalization of activities, curricula, and programs across the University. World College efforts are targeted at the extension of EMU's commitment to teaching and learning, research, and service into the global arena. By doing so, The World College helps to globalize the University's activities.

The activities of the World College are being administered by the Office of Academic Programs Abroad and include:

-travel grants;

-academic exchanges with foreign institutions; and

-the International Cultural Competence Institute

Eastern Michigan University established the World College in 1987 with the mission to help promote and guide the internationalization of programs and activities across Eastern Michigan University.

The World College coordinates and facilitates the development of internationally-focused programs via collaboration with the entire University community. World College programs are designed to extend into the global arena EMU's historic commitment to teaching and learning.


The World College's Goals include:


  • To serve as an information center and repository for proposed and current University international initiatives, activities, projects, and programs. 
  • To assist faculty and staff to internationalize their own expertise and apply that expertise to new or existing University international initiatives.
  • To facilitate global perspectives in University curricula. 
  • To assist in developing and maintaining liaison with foreign academic institutions, governments and business organizations.
  • To increase and improve international educational opportunities for students, faculty, and staff on campus and abroad.   
  • To facilitate the development of federal, state, corporate and private funding to support University international initiatives, activities, projects, and programs.
The World College, though not a traditional academic college, serves as a facilitating and coordinating center for international education. World College programs are developed collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff both at Eastern Michigan University and with our international partners.
