COVER LETTER

To respond to a want ad or to an inquire if a position exists, a Cover or Application Letter is written. It serves to encourage employers to read the accompanying resume and grant an interview. Below is the outline for a cover letter. Follow the suggestions and write your own. Even better, write it in Spanish. You may want to refer to the samples on this and the following pages.

Dear Mr.

1st paragraph: Tell why you are writing. Name the position for which you are applying. If you know there is a job opening, explain how you found out about it. For example, if you read about in the want ads or one of your teachers told you about the job, mention it.

2nd paragraph: highlight your qualifications. Briefly explain how your qualifications have prepared you for this job. Make reference to your enclosed resume. Encourage the employer to refer to it for further information about your qualifications.

3rd paragraph: Ask the employer for an interview. Make sure you mention where you may be reached by telephone, fax or e-mail.

4th paragraph: Include a short concise statement expressing your appreciation for the consideration of your job inquiry.
