JOB SEARCH

The next and final step in beginning a career in international business is the job search. It is a meticulous process. First, career objectives must be conceived and stated. Next, a resume listing all past job experiences, abilities, and accomplishments is assembled together with a cover letter.

Employment agencies are utilized, but the job seeker should understand their conditions, requirements, and workings. Prior to the interview, the candidate should thoroughly research the companies to which s/he has applied. During the interview, the job seeker should display a professional, attentive, and confident attitude. Preparation for the interview is key, and competencies, resourcefulness and accomplishments should be accurately described and emphasized. After the interview, an expression of appreciation and a follow up letter of thanks reiterating the candidate's strengths should be sent. Only written offers should be expected while benefits should be negotiated. Careful documentation of the search process will help in the future.

To help candidates with the application process, the pages that follow (see links above):

(1) Provide strategies and samples for writing cover pages and resumes;
(2) Cite bibliographical sources -- both printed and electronic --where information on international companies, staff, operations, products, sales, profit margins, future growth, etc., can be found;
(4) Furnish additional printed and electronic sources for job postings both in the U.S. and abroad.
(5) Offer suggestions as to how to prepare for and successfully conclude the interview;

The list of all sources for job leads is constructed from:
