2011 ESL Summer Semester
Program Information

Who can participate?
  • International students who are interested in a summer experience learning English and American culture on a university campus.
  • International students who want to study ESL only in preparation for applying to a university degree program.
  • International students who are already ESL conditionally admitted to EMU and want to begin ESL courses.
Dates: June 26 - August 16, 2011



Courses:
  • Students will be enrolled in regular, credit-bearing, academic ESL courses.
  • Students will select three courses from the following list (for a total of nine credit hours)
ESLN 110 Beginning ESL Grammar
ESLN 210 Intermediate ESL Grammar
ESLN 310 Advanced ESL Grammar
ESLN 410 Academic ESL Grammar
ESLN 116 Beginning ESL Speaking/Listening
ESLN 216 Intermediate ESL Speaking/Listening
ESLN 316 Advanced ESL Speaking/Listening
ESLN 416 Academic ESL Speaking/Listening
ESLN 113 American Pronunciation 1
ESLN 315 Study Skills for the English Language Learner 2
ESLN 317 American Language and Culture 2
ESLN 119 Community and Current Events 1

Application:
  • International students who want to study ESL only in preparation for applying to a university degree program will fill out an “Intensive English Program” application through the ESL Program.
  • International students who want to be ESL conditionally admitted to EMU and want to begin ESL courses should fill out a regular application to the degree program through the office of International Admissions.
Application deadline: admission and housing availability priority will be given to students who apply by April 1, 2011.
