The WRC is involved in educational and outreach activities in Southeast Michigan.  It also serves as a local information center on water resouce issues.

Educational Activities

The Water Educational Training (WET) Science Project serves as a resource for teachers and schools by offering:

Summer research projects for K-12 teachers,
An instructional technology laboratory, and
Water-related workshops and instructional materials.

The WET Project is committed to facilitating student-directed scientific discovery of the local environment, which can be integrated into local curricula and a regional research project.

Outreach Activities

The WRC partners with area community groups, like the Huron River Watershed Council, to provide community information and education on local waters and water resources in general.  Among the recent outreach activities of the WRC are Creek Fest 2001, River Day 2001, Girl Scout Math and Science Day, and presentations to local lake protection groups.

WRC Resource Center

The WRC Resource Center, located in 222 Strong Hall on the EMU campus, contains a variety of educational and instructional resources for teachers and students.  A number of free publications are available related to water, including guides to identifying purple loosestrife and zebra mussels.  Internet access and assistance are provided for those interested in researching more information.

If you would like to take advantage of these resources, call the WRC at 734-487-0327 or e-mail the WRC for a current schedule of operating hours or to make an appointment.
