Introductions
Committee members introduced themselves, including the organization they represent
as well as their background.
Presentation: Overview
of Watershed Management Planning Process
Anita Zot gave a PowerPoint slide presentation of the watershed management planning
process. This presentation, which included photographs taken on Stony Creek,
will be placed on the website: www.emich.edu/wrc/stonycreek1.html. She answered
questions from committee members regarding classifications of nonpoint source
pollution and sources of pollution.
Role of Watershed Planning Commissions
Joe Ohren emphasized the political considerations in planning for the Stony
Creek Watershed in addition to the technical perspectives outlined by Anita
Zot. He asked for input on additional stakeholders to be represented on the
steering committee. He and Laura Shue will follow up with the contacts identified.
The stakeholders identified include:
Development/Real Estate Interests
Washtenaw Home Builders Association
Monroe Home Builders Association
Engineers
Agricultural Interests
Farm Bureau
Soil Conservation
JoAnn Darling
Land Trust
SNLC
Governmental Units
County Health Departments
Village of Maybee
Committee Logistics
Members decided that the Haab Center Community Room would be the best location
for the next committee meeting, and that, initially, monthly meetings would
be best. Because of the primary elections, the next meeting of the steering
committee will be held the week of July 22nd. Laura Shue will assemble a contact
sheet for all committee members and mail a copy of the contact information along
with the meeting minutes.
Homework Assignments
Each committee member was given two homework assignments to be completed and
returned to Laura before the next meeting. The first was a media request form,
identifying all local media contacts. The second was a yellow sheet asking committee
members to identify desired uses of the watershed and any suspected nonpoint
pollution sources. Both will also be posted to the website.
Meeting adjourned 2:30 p.m.
