It's All About Science

The goal of the Water Educational Training (WET) Science Project at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) was to extend preservice teacher's science content and teaching practices as well as promote the interest and achievement of elementary students.

This 16 month project, funded by a grant from the Eisenhower Higher Educational Professional Development program (project #0290-203), brought together EMU faculty from Biology, Earth Science, Physics and Teacher Education departments to create 11 water science lessons, train K-12 preservice teachers to implement monthly WET science lessons, and establish after school science clubs in 10 diverse school districts in the Detroit Metropolitan area. Members of each after school club consisted of two preservice teachers, 25 children in grades 3-5, and one inservice teacher who served on behalf of the host school.
