WET
lessons were designed to foster deep understanding
and long-term retention of science concepts. At the
end of the first year of the project, the final writing
assessment showed that students were able to communicate
with accuracy what they learned from WET lessons taught
in after school sessions dating as far back as 7 months.
This was achieved in part through the sequence in
which lessons were presented, by implementing lessons
following our lesson plan model, encouraging students
to keep science journals, and using the fascinating
theme of water.
