New Ypsilanti Parking Restrictions, effective August 2005

A new ordinance established by the City of Ypsilanti restricts daytime and evening parking on residential streets near EMU's campus. To park on these streets, you must be a resident of these neighborhoods, and you must have a city-issued residential parking permit (not the same as an EMU parking hang tag) displayed in your car. The regulation is in effect during most daytime and evening hours (6 a.m. to 8 p.m., five or seven days per week, depending on the area). The map below provides details on which streets require a residential permit for parking, and the hours during which permits are required. See the bottom of this page for further information on specific streets and fines/towing for violations.

This is a city ordinance. EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY CANNOT ISSUE RESIDENTIAL PARKING PERMITS FOR LOCAL STREETS, nor can EMU intervene on behalf of anyone who is fined or towed for violating the city parking ordinance. Residential and resident-visitor parking permits for city streets must be obtained from the City of Ypsilanti. Parking for students, staff, faculty and visitors on EMU's campus continues to be regulated by the EMU Parking Office. Eastern Michigan University parking information is here.
