Provost's Message

Hello everyone-

I want to begin by wishing each of you a Happy New Year and welcoming everyone back to campus for the Winter 2017 semester. Since our last fall newsletter, the Provost’s Office added a shorter, weekly communication- our Wednesday Briefing- that goes out by email each week as a way to share time sensitive announcements, opportunities and deadlines with faculty and staff members from the Division of Academic and Students Affairs (DASA). We hope that these shorter briefings are helpful and serve to highlight those items that are timely and can be scanned quickly. Our newsletter will then highlight longer items and topics of interest.

EMU's new testing and certification center to serve both the EMU community and the southeast Michigan community.

The testing center, which is authorized by Pearson Vue, will be housed in the Halle Library's Holman Success Center and managed by a collaboration between the HSC and the Engage@EMU Office.

Engage@EMU is creating and promoting a vigorous community engagement agenda this fall, with a number of innovative events aimed at promoting community synergies in the cultural and business arenas.

Of interest is the Chronicle of Higher Education Great Colleges to Work for 2016 Annual Survey. Though EMU is not included in the list of 2016's outstanding colleges, much can be learned from the criteria used and the institutions who are on the list. Other standards of excellence are measured by the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE).
