Of interest is the Chronicle of Higher Education Great Colleges to Work for 2016 Annual Survey. Though EMU is not included in the list of 2016's outstanding colleges, much can be learned from the criteria used and the institutions who are on the list.
Other standards of excellence are measured by the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). The NSSE has been administered annually since 2008 to current first-year and senior students. The survey measures the effectiveness of the University's educational and service practices in various areas, including level of academic challenge, enriching educational experiences, active and collaborative learning, supportive campus environment and student and faculty interaction. EMU is able to use NSSE results to compare student engagement evaluations with other institutions and use these comparisons to set expectations and goals.
