Congratulations to the Recipients of Eastern’s Distinguished Contributions Awards

We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winners of Eastern’s 2019 Distinguished Contributions Awards.  We had a full house on March 27 as we celebrated the achievements and service of exemplary individuals from across the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. You’re Invited! Advance Showing: Smithsonian Channel’s “The General Was Female?” Featuring Professor Megan Moore

Eastern Professor of Anthropology, Dr. Megan Moore, will be featured in the Monday, April 8, 2019, 8 p.m. broadcast of Smithsonian Channel’s “America’s Hidden Stories: The General Was Female?”  Join us for an advance screening featuring Professor Moore's forensic research on General Casimir Pulaski, Revolutionary War hero. The event is on Thursday, April 4, from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. in Strong Auditorium.

2020 MLK Celebration Committee Seeks Input

Eastern Michigan University will soon begin planning for the 34th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.  The committee is seeking input from the campus community for the 2020 annual theme and to identify potential keynote speakers. To offer your suggestions or to volunteer to as a subcommittee co-chair or subcommittee member, please complete the online form by April 18, 2019.

Eastern to Host Second Annual Machine Learning Conference

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics will host the 2019 Machine Learning Conference at Eastern on April 6, 2019.  Started by Professor Ovidiu Calin in fall of 2017, The Machine Learning Group has grown to more than 80 students and faculty affiliated with either Princeton University, University of Michigan, or Eastern Michigan University. The group brings together individuals from different fields of study such as, engineering, computer science, statistics, mathematics, and biology.  By capitalizing on the complimentary knowledge base of this interdisciplinary group, members collaborate to share ideas and seek areas for future cooperation and innovation.

GEC Offers Campus 2 Career Professional Retreat for International Eastern Students

The Global Engagement Council is organizing an off-campus professional development retreat aimed at helping international students learn to successfully adapt to the multi-cultural workplaces in the US and leverage their unique strengths, talents, and skills.

Led by Dr. Diana Wong, Associate Professor of Management, this small group retreat will provide students the opportunity to learn various skills, such as following employment trends, developing professional identity, key workplace behaviors and etiquette, as well as cultural "dos and don’ts." The retreat will be held at Eastern’s Fish Lake facility on April 25 and 26, 2019.  Please consider sharing this information with your students and colleagues. 

Public Service Announcement: Do Not Take Selfies with Hissing Geese!

Spring has officially arrived as evidenced by the Canada Geese who have chosen to nest on Eastern’s campus.  Please refer to the University Communications email sent to you on April 2 for important information on how to behave if you find yourself confronted by a goose.
