Multicultural Graduation Celebration

The Center for Multicultural Affairs is hosting a celebration to recognize of our Students of Color graduating this semester. Phase 2 of the Loop 1 Project Underway

As you may know, we are moving forward on the Loop 1 project to replace existing primary electrical service to 19 buildings across campus. Phase 2 of the Loop 1 Conversion is set to begin this spring. Phase 2 — called swing space — includes temporary building shutdowns and temporary space locations for building occupants. Please visit the Loop 1 website for information about shutdowns, space assignments and resources.

GIS Graduate Published in Prestigious Journal

Congratulations to Professor Yichun Xie and recent GIS master's graduate Yuchen Li on the publication of a co-authored article in the Annals of the American Association of Geographers (AAG), which is the flagship journal of the international association. Most Ph.D.s in geography aspire to publish in the Annals AAG at least once during a career - but most do not. This is a tremendous accomplishment for a master's candidate, and a testament to Professor Xie’s commitment to student success.

EMU Commission on Women Scholarship Application Deadline Extended

The EMU Commission on Women have extended the 2018–19 scholarship deadline to April 7, 2018. This scholarship is intended for women in non-traditional majors or women that have had a break in education. The Commission would appreciate you sharing the information with your students.

The Collaborative - Ypsilanti YMCA Child Development Center

We are pleased to share that the Ann Arbor YMCA is opening a new child care program early this summer at the former Chappelle Community School at 111 S. Wallace Blvd. in Ypsilanti.  The project is in collaboration with Ypsilanti Housing Commission (YHC), Ypsilanti Community Schools (YCS) and Eastern Michigan University.

Called The Collaborative - Ypsilanti YMCA Child Development Center, the center will accept children ages 18 months to 5 years. Priority registration will be given to children of EMU students, and residents of the YHC who live within the YCS district.

Parents enrolled in college often cite lack of childcare as a barrier to attending class. 76% of EMU students surveyed about this project indicated that they would benefit from a new affordable childcare option. A special thanks to Caroline Sanders, Decky Alexander and Leigh Greden for their work in bringing additional services to support our students. Find out more about the Collaborative.
