Good News! Winter 2018 Commencement a Success
We would like to express our gratitude to the team of employees and volunteers whose combined efforts resulted in a successful and memorable commencement ceremony. The coordination, cooperation, and commitment of the individuals and teams that support our students through their work on this important event is very much appreciated. Call for Applications: Graduate Research Conference
The Graduate School is hosting the 2019 Graduate Research Conference (GRC) on Friday, March 22, 2019. This annual event highlights graduate student research and creative activity and is an excellent platform for graduate students of all disciplines to share their work with the professional community. Working Over the Break?
If you plan to work on campus during the holiday break, please be sure to inform the Department of Public Safety upon your arrival to campus. DPS will patrol and investigate any activity they see, so the courtesy of a call to 734.487.0892 is very much appreciated.
New Board Policy: Minors on Campus
The following policy statement was approved pursuant to new state legislation and regulatory requirements:
University Policy Statement
It is the policy of Eastern Michigan University that all existing and future University programs and activities involving minors shall be developed and administered pursuant to a comprehensive Minors on Campus administrative procedure, to provide a safe and protective environment for participating minors.
Associated Administrative Procedure
Beginning in Winter 2019, the Minors on Campus Coordinator at [email protected] will provide training for students, staff and faculty who interact and supervise minors that come to campus. In addition to sharing best practices, the coordinator will collect and maintain data for reporting purposes, and verify that programs are properly registered. Colleges, departments, and other campus entities are responsible for creating, documenting and enforcing procedures that incorporate and support this new procedure. IT Scanning Services Update
Beginning January 2, 2018, the IT Scanning Services window will have reduced hours. The new window hours for picking up results will be: Monday through Friday: 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. For your convenience, a new 24 hour dropbox has been installed for submitting exams.
Did you know you can receive results by email? To receive your results as soon as the exam has been processed, include the appropriate information under “roster email options” on your request form when submitting exams for scanning.
Please remember that you (or your designee) must have the receipt to pick up results. If the receipt is lost, only the professor (with picture ID) can pick up exam results.
As a courtesy to faculty, IT Scanning Services offers extended hours during final exams. Those hours will be 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. beginning Wednesday, December 12 and continuing through Thursday, December 20.
Call for Nominations: Full- and Part-Time Lecturer Awards
The Provost’s Office is now accepting nominations for the 2018 Full- and Part-Time Lecturers Awards to honor lecturers for their dedication to students’ education, as well as to demonstrate the value placed in full-time lecturers by the institution. The winners of these awards will be recognized at the Distinguished Contributions Awards Ceremony during Eastern’s Week of Excellence celebrations. The guidelines, deadlines and nomination forms may be found online. Please share this information with staff, students, and any other appropriate people and/or committees within your department, school, or area.

Call for Nominations: Ronald W. Collins Distinguished Faculty Awards
The Faculty Senate is pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the Ronald W. Collins Distinguished Faculty Awards for tenure-track and tenured faculty. The awards are offered annually in the following categories: Teaching I, Teaching II, Research I, Research II, Creative Activity, and Service. Nominations will be accepted through January 21, 2019. Information on the nomination process and award guidelines are available online.
