Racism On Campus
In light of the racist incidents at the University of Michigan yesterday, we are reminding instructors that should similar events occur again at EMU and you have particular challenges or issues of concern, please feel free to share these with your Dean's office, the Ombuds' Office, or with Interim Undergraduate Studies Director Michael Tew in the Provost's Office. Every effort will be made to assist you.
Also, it is within your discretion to provide accommodations to students regarding class attendance, should there be another escalation of racist activity at EMU. Please do whatever you can to assist and support students as they struggle with these actions.
Students can also be referred to Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), available to students for support during these challenging times. Students can contact CAPS at 734.487.1118 if they would like to schedule a time to talk with a professional. CAPS is open Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., and students may also access CAPS’ after-hours phone support in the evenings and weekends by calling 734.487.1118.
Inauguration of President Smith – March 2, 2017
Faculty, Full- and Part-Time Lecturers planning to attend the Inauguration and participate in the march and processional are reminded to order regalia online by February 16. Visit the Inauguration web page, and click on the Participants tab for details on timing and other logistics, noting that participants will gather in McKenny Hall to march to Pease. (Note: if the regalia order site references commencement and a deadline of February 10, please ignore. We are trying to get this fixed by the site owners. The accurate ordering deadline is February 16 and orders placed there are for the Inauguration, not commencement).
If not participating in the march and processional, regalia is not needed, but you will need to reserve free tickets to general seating in Pease Auditorium. Click on the Attendees tab, and then the Reserve Tickets button.

Jewish Studies Celebrating 5 Years at EMU
As part of the celebration to commemorate this anniversary, the EMU Center for Jewish Studies has invited Galeet Dardashti and her musical ensemble Divahn to the Ann Arbor area. Galeet Dardashti will give a free presentation entitled "Sacred Music Hits the Israeli Opo Charts: Money, Music and Mizrahiyut (ethnic identify)" at 7 p.m. at the Ann Arbor Community Center on April 2. Dardashti and Divahn will appear in concert at the Arc on April 3 at 7:30 p.m.; tickets can be purchased in person at the University of Michigan Union Ticket Office or online.
