We would like to express our gratitude to all of the members of the MLK Celebration Planning Committee for the wonderful series of activities and events they scheduled for this year’s recognition. Their work was outstanding. We also would like to extend our thanks to all of the academic and students affairs presenters and participants. The range of programs provided by faculty, staff, students and community members this year highlight Eastern’s long tradition of coming together in celebration of, and reflection on, the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
As you may be aware, EMU has deployed an inaugural Survey on Campus Sexual Misconduct Culture to students who were randomly selected to represent our diverse student body.
The survey includes questions about the experiences of students with various forms of sexual misconduct including coercion, harassment, and sexual violence. The survey also asks students about the degree to which they feel safe and respected, their knowledge about and satisfaction related campus resources and policies, and their views on consent, rape myths, and bystander behaviors. Therefore, the survey is not meant to be answered only by students who have directly experienced sexual misconduct but instead by all students who receive an invitation to participate in this vital effort.
The survey will use a sample approach. Students will be randomly selected from a list of all EMU students to receive an invitation to complete the survey. Therefore, it is very important that all students who receive the invitation choose to participate so that the survey findings are representative of EMU’s diverse students.
Please consider reminding your students to look for an invitation, and encourage those who receive one to complete the survey. For additional information on this important work, please visit the website.
